Our Beginnings  A Flicker of Hope began in the Spring of 2006 as a labor of love to help support the work of the Liberian orphanage where we adopted our son Levi from the previous winter. Our adoption journey began in the Spring of 2005 after I read an article in Above Rubies magazine about Liberian orphans.  The article spoke of the many orphans in the West African country of Liberia due to 14 years of civil unrest, and the poverty and disease that resulted.  Adoption couldn't have been further from our minds, but the Lord quickly showed us that there was a little baby boy from this West African country who was to be our son.

During our adoption journey we witnessed the great need of the Liberian people and desired to be a part of helping them in some small way.  My sister and I turned our candlemaking hobby into an ongoing fundraiser to help the people of Liberia through our son's orphanage. From the spring of 2006 through Christmas of 2007, all of the profits from our candle sales went towards this effort.

A Flicker of Hope, Inc. 2008  God has slowly been revealing His plans to us for our small candle business.  We desire to adopt again and  will hopefully begin the process sometime in 2008. On January 1, 2008, A Flicker of Hope became incorporated.  We will now be using our small candlemaking business to raise funds for our future adoption as well as support small ministries, organizations and projects that give aid to the people of Africa.

Our Vision  God has instilled within me a heart for orphans, Africa, and adoptive families.  Many families have a heart and desire to adopt internationally and the financial means to raise another child, but they simply do not have the funds needed for an international adoption.  My long term vision for A Flicker of Hope is to help families with adoption related expenses and continue to support African related ministries on a regular basis.

Our Candles Our highly scented candles are made from a soy/cottonseed blend wax with a cotton core or coreless wick.  Because of this, they are very clean burning; virtually eliminating soot in the air, on your walls and on your furniture.  We have a variety of scents that will vary seasonally.   JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER:  Our wicks are self trimming.  Please don’t trim them before initial lighting or between lightings.  If you do, the wax may smother the wick and you will not be able to light it again.

  Our Guarantee

We strive to give you the highest quality products we possibly can at a reasonable price.  We personally test all of our candles and these are some of the things that we look for:

1.  Candles should burn edge to edge leaving no wax clinging to the jar (in order for this expectation to be met, candles should be left burning for at least a couple of hours at a time)

2.  Candles should burn to within 1/4" of the bottom of the jar.

3.  Candles should have a strong scent throw while burning.

There are several variables involved in candlemaking.  Although it is rare, a single candle may fall short of these quality expectations for some unknown reason.  If this occurs, please let us know immediately and we will replace your product right away at no charge to you.

Like any other homemade product, please understand that there will be some slight variances in appearance from time to time.    Due to the nature of natural wax we use, you may see some frosting on the candle or flaking on top.  This in no way changes the high quality of candle, but simply adds a homemade, rustic appeal.
